Let's Dance!

Bonjour My Friends! It's been a long fabulous day and I have been looking forward to sitting down to write a post all day. I have so many incredible blogs to post about and awards to acknowledge and pass along, as well as friends shops and fun new ideas to write about. I can't lie, I feel a little bit overwhelmed :) So, while I get my thoughts together and plan out some beautiful posts for you I will sit and reminisce about a favorite little shop in Paris.

Most of you have probably heard of it and some have probably shopped there. Maybe you have been, like me, drooling in front of the vitrine, or maybe it is new to you. Either way, once you have experienced it, you will agree, there is nothing quite like it!

This gorgeous little gem is one of my favorite haunts in Paris. The windows are always glorious little pieces of heaven and the ballet flats are any chic girls' best fashion accessory. I've worn out plenty of pairs on the streets of Paris! :)

When I was younger I was a ballet dancer. Mostly, because my Mom really wanted me to be. I loved it but as I grew up, I stopped dancing altogether. Every time I visit Repetto, I think to myself how I would have loved to dance and always dreamed of dancing with Mikhail Baryshnikov (I had an insane crush on the man for years)!

Here is a little bit about the brand and the woman behind it.
Rose Repetto created her first ballet shoe in a tiny little workshop practically next door to the National Opera of Paris for her son Roland Petit in 1947. Nearly a decade later Brigitte Bardot requested a pair. Rose then created the "Cendrillon" ballerina and dedicated t to Brigitte.

Two years later Rose opens her first shop at 22 rue de la Paix. It didn't take long to become the ultimate destination for the famous ballerinas all over the world. Rose then established a factory in Saint Medard d'Excideuil in Dordogne. Where the "stitched and returned" method was perfected for the pointes and ballerinas and is still in use.

In 1999 Jean-Marc Gaucher takes over Repetto and strives to breath new life into it.
Since then, Repetto has partnered with many brands and in 2005 made their One Millionth pair of ballerinas.

In 2007 Repetto celebrated their 60th Anniversary with much fanfare and are known worldwide. They can still be found at the original address...
22 rue de la Paix.

The website is just gorgeous and showcases the beautiful items available for purchase. It also gives advice to dancers on how to sew their ribbons and so much more. The photos alone are worth the visit.

If you are ever in the vicinity of a Repetto shop I would take a peak at the incredible window displays. They are always breath taking and inspiring.

This photo is a close up of a tutu in the window. How dreamy and frothy!

I'm off to work on my Battement frappé, Chassé, and Glissade moves!
Have a fabulous weekend!
XOXO,
Judith~

  2. I think every little has been a baley dancer at her young age . this "pointe"shoes were the ultimate goals the dream of any ballerina . I still have the emotion for the pink satin . but when it was time to wear it , dream turn hell and pain . beauty sometime has a price to pay , and in that case it was definitely as high as 25 cm of satin and gyps tortur.
But I have to admit Repetto is such a dream shop .

  3. Judith, ma chèrie!
Tu étais danseuse aussi? Moi, je dansais pendant mon enfance et mon adoléscence. Après que je me suis mariée, j'ai arreté...mais je ne regrette rien; je suis en bonne forme grâce au ballet! YOU HAVE NOW INTRODUCED ME TO ANOTHER FAVORITE FIND IN PARIS! I never saw it while I was there; neither did I see Ladurée and now, I have even more reason to have my husband take me to Paris! He did promise to take me after I am done with my Master's thesis which is all that I have been doing this summer! I have to tell you how much I have been enjoying all the little goodies I received from your give-away. Judith, you are a treasure. Thank you for this trip to Repetto! Bisous, Anita

  9. Judith,
I have been saving up loads of Repetto pics and was going to do a post over the ballet, but I knew it would take some real research for me to do a post over it, and just haven't had the time. A person like you who has actually taken ballet is the perfect person to do a post over it! You did a great job. And these images are indeed graceful!

  12. This was fascinating! I walked by the Repetto shop when I was in Paris in May and did not know the history. Next time, I'll be sure to stop and go in.

  13. Every little girl in the world should own a pair of ballet slippers and be exposed to The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake (whether its on stage or by Barbie ;)

  14. Such a charming post as always!

I'm afraid I was never even close to even think of ballet when I was little...even if I'm still quite a good dancer.

I could have a pair of these shoes anyway, they are beautiful to watch.

P.s. We are soon back working...time heals all wounds.

  48. Bonjour Judith,
How are you? I haven't seen you in a while and your lovely post remains to be my absolute favorite! It inspired me so that I went out and bought a child's tutu, made a bodice and bought the smallest pair of toe shoes so that I could make a display in my bedroom like that from Repetto! I danced many years ago as well, but don't have any artifacts left of that part of my life so I started from scratch! Come back soon and visit me when you can! Anita
